Ha, I'd not heard of cat vacuuming. Amusingly, if you type vacuum the cat into yahoo, most of the first hits are videos of people vacuuming the cat.

I'm going to take a week off, probably in late March or early April, so that I can catch up with reading, and perhaps write. I'll have a read through then. (Just to let you know that I've not forgotten, nor ignoring here, :)).

Yeah, that's what I decided in the end, too! The "painting" bit is incredibly time-consuming by comparison, and I think loses a lot of what I wanted in the, um, tediousness.

I discovered that my brother works a hundred yards away from this roundabout. [I just found it at random via flickr].

Absolutely. At least, the stuff he wrote between from the mid-60s through the 80s is—earlier work is pulpy trash and later work is incomprehensibly self-indulgent. The seminal short story collection which I have as Driftglass was recently repackaged as Aye, and Gomorrah (well, it's a bit more complicated than that). If you like science fiction, try Stars in My Pocket Like Grains of Sand (or possibly [Trouble on] Triton); for fantasy, the Nevèrÿon series (four volumes, of which the second is a more-or-less standalone novel and the others are collections of short stories and novellas); and for straight out unclassifiable, Dhalgren.

At the start of the year, I said I'd write a short story every month. Current completion rate is one every 3 months.

Knitting ;) I am still suffering from writer's block^H^Hprocrastination. I have a couple of ideas for specific audiences but they're a bit jumbled. Might have to just sit down and thrash it out.
